The Art of Tea Ceremony

Experience a traditional tea ceremony in the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion -- complete with serving of matcha, your very own tea bowl, and a Japanese sweet

The Japanese tea ceremony, known as the Way of Tea, is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In Japanese, it is called sadō, chadō (茶道) or chanoyu (茶の湯), while the manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called otemae (お手前).

Experience this special art form at Japan Festival of Houston.

Please be advised that pets will not be allowed inside the Pavilion.

Each tea ceremony demonstration is 60 minutes long. Please arrive 10 minutes before the demonstration time and please note that preregistration is required as seating is limited.

Demonstrations will only be offered on Saturday, September 12 at the following times:

  • 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM

  • 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

  • 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Ticket Types* Available:

  • Adult Tickets ($57.75)

  • Student Tickets ($10.50)

  • Under 15 Tickets ($5.25)

  • Under 5 Tickets (free)

    • Registration for children under 5 years old are free. However, they must be included in your registration for them to attend the demonstration due to limited seating capacity.

*A maximum of 2 tickets may be purchased per ticket type. If you are purchasing 2 tickets, they must be for the same demonstration time.
