THE ART OF IKEBANA
Ikebana, also known as kado or “the way of flowers,” is one of Japan’s three classical arts of refinement.
Enjoy a special Ikebana exhibition as well as hands-on learning experiences and workshops on the art of Japanese Flower Arranging at the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion in Hermann Park’s Centennial Garden.

Visitors to Japan Festival Houston can enjoy a quick hands-on ikebana experience, guided by the skilled members of Ikebana International Houston Chapter #12.
These sessions will be offered immediately following the tea ceremony demonstrations:

Ikebana Workshop – Experience the Art of Japanese Flower Arrangement
$65/person
Begin your journey into the Japanese art of ikebana with a one-hour hands-on workshop.
Certified instructors from Ikebana International Houston Chapter #12 will demonstrate the fundamental principles of this elegant tradition and guide you in creating your own beautiful arrangement.
Participants will take home:
A Japanese kenzan (pin frog), 3.5" x 2-5/8"
A durable, attractive plastic suiban (container)
All floral materials
Please bring your own flower clippers.
Preregistration is required. Space is limited to 20 participants per workshop. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time.
Workshops will be held at 4:30 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday Workshop: Beginner Ikebana
Create your first arrangement under the guidance of Shirley Bludau, Associate Master, Ichiyo School of Ikebana.
Sunday Workshop: The Rule of Thirds in Ikebana
Learn the principles of material placement with Shaila Shah, Instructor Grade 4, Sogetsu School of Ikebana.
